The student ID card serves as the 'pass' to use the Library facilities and services, to borrow materials, or to make bookings to use equipment or audio-visual materials. A full range of reference items, books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, CD-ROMs, and videocassettes are housed in the Library. These resources are found by searching the online catalogue .
A card-operated photocopier, black-and-white and colour printers, and a scanner are available in the Library for student use. The adult learner is provided with life-long research skills when using the Library. Trained staff are available to help students, staff, or members of the community to locate information.

Interlibrary Loans
Library staff can obtain books and articles from other libraries when requested items are not in Portage College's collection or when the collection does not cover a topic adequately, as determined by library staff.
Information Commons
The library provides workstations for use by anyone holding a Portage College identification card or a community membership with special permission. Library computers provide access to the online catalogue, the Internet, the online databases and many Microsoft Office applications.
Services for Outreach Programs
Loan periods are extended to allow for distance delivery. Students and Instructors can search the online catalogue and access online databases from each site.
Information requests can be sent by e-mail to the Library - library@portagecollege.ca or can be made by calling 780-623-5650, or faxing 780-623-5656.
Library staff will pull books on the requested topic and photocopy relevant articles. The following information is required to fill a request promptly:
Name/Program/Level i.e. Jane Doe/LEF/400
Contact phone number i.e. (780) 555-5555
Specific topic i.e. Cause of World War II
Length of assignment i.e. 1200 word essay
Date by which material is required. Allow at least two days to fill the request
Tours and Library Instruction
Instructors are encouraged to book orientation tours for their classes at the beginning of the academic year. Instructors may also request a follow-up tour of a more in-depth nature. The library will provide library skills assignments as requested.
Internet, database and in-class library instruction are available throughout the year. Booking forms are available at the Circulation Desk.
