Tragic Fighter Jet Crash in Cold Lake

The public has been notified that a CF-18 fighter jet pilot has died after an early morning crash today.

The CF-18 from 401 squadron at CFB Cold Lake went down on the Saskatchewan side of the Cold Lake air weapons range just after 11 a.m. local time. The name of the pilot has not been released, reports CBC news Edmonton.  

"Because of our deep connection with the military in Cold Lake, we are feeling a big loss as a group and emotions are understandably running high," said Guy Gervais, Associate Vice President of Academic.  

The Board of Governors and staff of Portage College offer our condolences to the family of the pilot and the many friends, family and military personnel impacted by this loss of life.
