On January 9, Lac La Biche County Council passed a motion approving $50,000 in sponsorship and in-kind support for Portage College's 50th anniversary. The funds will be used to support multiple community events throughout the year.
"We thank Lac La Biche County Council for supporting our 50th anniversary celebrations," said Dr. Trent Keough, President & CEO of Portage College. "We enjoy a productive and collaborative relationship with County Council and are grateful for their willingness to celebrate our full 50 years in Lac La Biche. With Lac La Biche County's continued support we are poised to engage the many exciting opportunities that will present themselves to our partnership in the days ahead."
Portage College has many events for this year from Better Together Dinners, Concerts to Community BBQs.
"Portage College has been serving our community-including Aboriginal peoples and neighbouring Métis settlements-for 50 years. It's rare for a small community like ours to have a college, and it's a feature that sets us apart from other rural municipalities in Alberta and the rest of Canada," said Mayor Omer Moghrabi of Lac La Biche County.
"The College has provided excellent education opportunities to our diverse residents, and Lac La Biche County Council is pleased to support its 50th anniversary celebrations. We look forward to seeing what Portage College will bring to Lac La Biche County in the years to come," added Moghrabi.
Lac La Biche County is now the Voyageur Sponsor for the year, helping support the events and in turn contributing to the Spirit of Community Partnerships Endowment. All proceeds from this year's events will go towards the endowment to support students well into the future.
