Students Benefit from Ducks Unlimited Banquet
January 22, 2018

Lac La Biche Ducks Unlimited Chapter is hosting their fundraising banquet on February 3 with the help of our Natural Resources Technology (NRT) Program students. Students benefit by networking through Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) and get to raise funds to offset future conference costs.

NRT students are volunteering their time with the DUC for the banquet to raise awareness of their program as well as identify opportunities for practicum placements. The potential for experience and future opportunities have students elated.

President of the Lac La Biche Ducks Unlimited Chapter, and Coordinator of Portage College's NRT Program, Al Bertschi said, "This partnership on the event is a match that's beneficial for both parties. We get exposure to my program; win. The Chapter gets a fundraising banquet; win. My students get practicum placement opportunities and a subsidized trip to a conference; big win."

Not only are the students benefitting from the event with networking, but the proceeds from an auctioned print as well as the bar sales will help cover costs for a March conference. NRT students will take a trip to Lethbridge for the Alberta Chapter of Wildlife Society conference.

"Our students have really taken the lead on this event, with planning the event, creating posters as well as getting the word out," said Bertschi, "We are very proud of the work that they've put in."

DUC has also collected the NRT student email addresses to directly send the students job postings for their practicum placement which is part of their curriculum.

Come join the party to help support the conservation of Canada's wetlands as well as our students.
