Wildland Firefighting - Firetack Crew Member

Learn to fight fires safely and aggressively. Wildland Firefighting - Firetack Crew Member is an 13-day training program designed to prepare you in the practical and technical skills required to work as a highly trained, dedicated Wildland Firefighter member. A firetack crew member's main duties are sustained action fire containment and initial attack fire suppression. This training will increase your demand during peak or emergency fire seasons, with opportunities to be exported provincially and nationally. This program consists of lectures and field training using the techniques and standards set by Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development. Graduates of this program receive Wildland Firefighter Certification from Hinton Training Centre.

Admission Requirements
Grade 9 academic level. Completion of Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and must be in excellent physical health.

Career Potential
Certified Wildland Firefighters can contract and/or work directly with the Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development in a variety of fire suppression activities.

    Train to perform duties for sustained action fire containment using the safest modern firefighting techniques. Administration safety, fire intelligence, fire behaviour and operations are the main topics discussed.   • RADIO OPERATORS LICENSE

    Learn forest protection division communications systems and current radio equipment used on the fire line. Industry Canada radio operation procedures are covered. Graduates are eligible to be certified for a Radio Telephone Operators Restricted Certificate (Aeronautical).
