Program Description
The Office Administration program prepares students for immediate employment in a constantly changing technological and office environment. Students will obtain the knowledge and skills required to gain employment in administrative support positions in business, government and industry. Instruction in the software programs most commonly used in the workplace is provided using state-of-the-art computers. Students will develop keyboarding skills and the ability to create professional documents including letters, forms and reports. Upon completion of the program, students will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Windows and the Internet. Other skills acquired include basic accounting, filing, reception, telephone, mail, interpersonal and teamwork skills. A three week practicum placement provides on-the-job training enabling students to gain confidence and to use their new skills in a real work setting.

Admission Requirements
Grade 11 or equivalent with credit in English 20, 20-1 or 20-2 or 23, Math 10C or 10-3, or Math 10 Prep or Math 10 (Applied or Pure) or 13 (Math 24 acceptable) OR successful completion of basic skills admission test (Nelson Denny and Business Math). Career Potential
Graduates of the program may find employment in administrative support positions for government, business or industry. The Alberta government, colleges and universities, municipalities, small businesses and Settlement and Band Offices have hired Portage College graduates.
Transferability
Graduates will be accepted into Year II of Office Administration programs at Grande Prairie Regional College, Keyano College, Lethbridge Community College, Bow Valley College and e-campus Alberta.
