Program Description
The Trades Readiness certificate program is designed for students who wish to enter an apprenticeable trade but do not have the required mathematics, science and/or communication skills. The program provides students with the opportunity to learn and review skills in science, mathematics and English (Communications) at the 7.0 – 9.9 grade equivalent level. Students will also be provided with an insight to the culture of working in the trades. The program covers topics designed to provide direction for personal and professional growth. In addition, students will be provided with specific, certifiable safety training.

Transferability
The Trades Readiness Certificate has been approved by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training as equivalent to grade 9 for the purpose of entrance requirement for apprenticeship Carpenter, Welder and Cook.
The Trades Readiness Certificate is accepted as a prerequisite to the following Portage College programs:
Trades: Apprentice Level 1 Cooking; Pre-employment Welding, Carpentry
