The Be Fit For Life Network has been Alberta's source for active living since 1982. The Network is comprised of nine regional centres focusing on providing services, programs and resources to promote the health benefits of active living and physical activity.  The Network is also associated with the Alberta Active Living Partners network and the Provincial Fitness Unit.  The Network is funded by the Alberta, Sport, Recreation, Parks, and Wildlife Foundation as well as the hosting post-secondary institutions.

Outline of Services:

  • Be Fit For Life At Portage CollegeDevelopment and distribution of health, wellness, & fitness information resources
  • Coordination of special events and community projects (eg. Go Girl-Go Guy, Health & Wellness Expo, Pedometer Challenge, Alberta Winter Walk Day)
  • Active living, healthy eating, and wellness presentations/interactive displays
  • Fitness, health, and lifestyle counselling
  • Fitness assessments following The Canadian Physical Activity, Fitness, & Lifestyle Approach
  • Customized cardiovascular, flexibility, muscular strength & endurance exercise programs for individuals or groups
  • Variety of group exercise classes (Zumba, Spin, Core, Flex, Step, Yoga Ball, Bootcamp, Sports Conditioning, etc.)
  • Collaboration on active living initiatives with community partners
  • Outreach programs and services for individuals, communities, schools, & workplaces
  • Linking Albertans to a vast network of fitness, health, and nutrition professionals


School Programs:

Active Aliens
Students (K-2) have fun learning about the benefits of active living, an experience that is "out of this world"!

Students (Gr.3-6) get physical challenges & increase their health knowledge as they progress through 8 lessons ranging in topics including:  lifestyle, habits, eating, self-esteem, balance, agility, strength, endurance, core and flexibility.

Active Body Adventure*
Students (Gr.4-6) get active and challenged in 4 components of fitness:  cardio, flexibility, strength, and core.

B.A.S.E.C. (Balance, Agility, Strength, Endurance, & Core Training
Students (Gr.4-6) learn to use a variety of equipment to challenge their bodies with fun circuit training.

In the Zone - Heart Health*
Students (Gr.7-12) learn the concept of heart rate monitoring and how their body responds to physical activity.

Move & Play Through Physical Literacy*
Students (K-4) learn how to integrate physical literacy skills into a variety of activities so that they can move with confidence & competence.

Yoga Techniques for the Classroom*
Students (K-Gr.9) learn yoga movements that can be performed at their desk in order to bring energy, balance, calm, and relaxation into the classroom.

Free Teacher In-Service Training available with purchase of KIT for select programs*

Work Programs:

Lunch 'n' Learn
Employees take part in 30-60 minute lunch time interactive presentations that cover a variety of topics such as components of fitness, basic training, yoga techniques, healthy eating, and disease prevention.

Pedometer Challenges
Teams strive to walk 10,000 steps per person/per day over a period of 6 weeks for a chance to win prizes and improve their health.
