Childcare services are conveniently offered at the Lac La Biche Campus. Independently operated childcare centres exist in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, St. Paul, Vegreville and Wainwright.
The Lac La Biche Childcare Association is a non-profit, board-run organization that offers childcare services to Portage College students.
The Childcare Centre's program is based on a "learning through play" philosophy. Interest areas and daily activities focus on the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child. Childcare Centre staff are trained and experienced in the field of Early Childhood Development. Children are provided with a nutritious breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack each day.
All parents who come into the Childcare Centre may apply for a government subsidy to help them offset the cost of childcare. The subsidy program is an income tested program which means that all families may not qualify for the same amount of subsidy. The cost of care to the parent will depend upon how much subsidy for which they qualify. Subsidy applications are available at the Childcare Centre located on the first floor of the Lac La Biche Campus or through the Student Advisors at Portage College.
Students interested in childcare services should apply early, as spaces fill quickly.
Phone 1-866-623-5551 for toll free service to both Student Advisors and the Childcare Centre.
