Portage College and the Village of Boyle Announce Partnership in Education

Portage College and the Village of Boyle proudly announce a partnership set to provide educational opportunities for municipal employees and elected representatives. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signifies a journey for continuous learning and skills advancement within the community.

Portage College, renowned for its commitment to accessible education, will offer micro-credential training programs to Village staff and officials under the terms of the agreement. Effective May 1st, 2024, until April 30, 2027, participants will have the opportunity of enrolling in one complimentary course annually. The curriculum spans a wide array of disciplines, ranging from permaculture to business essentials, ensuring diverse avenues for professional development.

President Nancy Broadbent spoke about the partnership as a testament to shared values, remarking, “Portage College feels incredibly lucky to team up with the Village of Boyle on this project. We're all about lifelong learning and making our community thrive, and this partnership is a big step towards that. This will bring substantial benefits for individuals and the wider region.”

In the spirit of mutual progress, the MOU mandates regular evaluations to optimize outcomes for both entities. President Nancy Broadbent and Mayor Colin Derko affirmed their commitment to exploring additional avenues of cooperation, including support for work integrated learning opportunities for college students, exploring opportunities to create promotional, economic development and training opportunities in Boyle, as well as provide Boyle service benefits to Portage College registered students.  

Expressing his enthusiasm, Village of Boyle Mayor, Colin Derko, stated, "President Nancy Broadbent and the Portage Board of Directors have a unified vision for community education that is both inspirational and infectious. The Village of Boyle is very lucky to have Portage as our partner and I am excited for our future. Investing in Boyle's future with a strong partnership just makes sense."
