Portage College Student Housing for Government’s Essential Services
May 13, 2020

Student housing at Portage College has been available for provincial efforts in the past and especially during this difficult time. Currently, student housing in Lac La Biche is being occupied by the Alberta Agriculture and Forestry Wildland Firefighting Crew. Firefighters are an essential service for the province and the College usually hosts this group each year.

Along with supporting essential fire fighters, the student housing will be made available for healthcare workers to use for self-isolation if there is a future outbreak.

Things are going well in the Portage College region so far as the flu season ends, so at this time there is less urgency. However, the healthcare administration appreciates the option for self-isolation at the College facilities being kept available in case things change quickly.

“Portage College is honoured to be offering assistance, access to equipment and other resources not only to the health care sector but to the residents and organizations in our region,” said Nancy Broadbent, President and CEO of Portage College.
