Pembina Pipeline Golf Tournament Raises More Than $10K for Portage Endowment
January 25, 2023

A fall golf tournament came up all aces for Portage College students. Pembina Pipeline Corporation hosted a golf tournament for its employees and contractors at the Meadowlands Golf Club in Sylvan Lake on September 17, 2022 and raised $10,520 for Portage College to support and grow the Portage College Scholarship Endowment. This is the fourth time in the past six years that the company has raised money for Portage College through the annual tournament. Since 2017, Pembina has donated more than $25,000 to the College from the event.

Tournament organizer Larry Christensen highlighted that the Portage College scholarship endowment aligns with Pembina’s community values.

“To be able to help supply scholarships to students who are active in their communities for many years to come is a great initiative that Pembina is very proud of,” he said. “Thanks to all who participated in Pembina [Oilsands Business Unit] golf tournament. [I’m] looking forward to next year.”

The tournament was attended by all Pembina employees and their contractors, who helped raise money by participating in the event. OCL Group Inc. contributed $2,500 towards the cause.

“We recognize the great work Portage College does in the community to support individuals that want to continue their education later on in life,” said Scott Earle, OCL Group’s Business Development Manager Midstream and Engineering. “We are happy to support a college that is set up in the rural community so individuals can continue their post-secondary education close to friends, family and their community,.”

This latest contribution brings the total to $1.5 million raised towards supporting students. The upcoming Student Scholarship Fundraising Dinner is on March 3, 2023 and fundraising efforts by partners has made a big impact.

“The goal is to grow this endowment to over $4.1 million,” said Rick Flumian, Manager of Community Relations at Portage College. “We are so grateful to Pembina Pipeline, OCL Group Inc. and all of the other generous businesses and individuals who continue to support this important initiative. On behalf of our dedicated students and employees, thank you.”
