Portage Gives Back for 50th Birthday Week

Portage College will continue to celebrate its 50th birthday by giving back to the communities it serves with a full week of entertaining events and a brand new, ongoing volunteerism program beginning September 14.

Friday, September 14: The Spirit of Community Conference will be an exciting event featuring more than 20 diverse sessions in health and wellness, business, finance, marketing, technology and other topics that will inspire you and ensure you have some fun. Everyone is welcome to attend the free conference at the Lac La Biche campus. Registration opens at 1:00 p.m. on the day of the conference.

After the conference stay with us for a free community BBQ at 4pm under the tents on the Lac La Biche campus soccer field. Delicious food will be served rain or shine.

After supper, the Portage College gymnasium will be transformed for a special evening honouring our college founders, leaders and alumni from the past 50 years. Saturday, September 15: Join in the fun at the Voyageur Games & Jamboree being held at the Portage College Campus soccer field at 11:00 am. A fun filled Corporate Challenge including Stew and Bannock Cook off, the Voyageur of the North team competition, a jamboree with fiddle music, traditional hand games, bannock making, jigging and dancing, moose calling, storytelling with the Elders and games for the children. Wednesday, September 19: The College has partnered with Lac La Biche County to bring you Mini Canoe Fest with Music in the Park at McArthur Park. Enjoy an evening with the family, including music, entertainment and concession. The night begins with children's entertainer Bobby Boogaloo at 5:00 pm and wraps up with the band Last Minute at 6:30 pm.

Friday, September 21: Portage College and Lac La Biche County are teaming up to bring you a 1950's-style drive-in movie at the Bold Center. The College will be running a concession, starting at 7:00 pm. Walk up and grab some grub or wait for our roller skaters to serve you at your vehicle. Contact Lac La Biche County for more details.

Saturday, September 22: The final event of the week is the Canoe Fest Concert at the Bold Center, hosted in partnership with Lac La Biche County, be prepared to rock out with Canadian legends Lee Aaron, Prism and Honeymoon Suite. Get your tickets from Ticketmaster.com, Lac La Biche Sporting Goods, Britton's Independent Grocer or the Bold Center.

September and Ongoing: A brand new program is starting where Portage College employees will be giving back to their communities by volunteering their time to lend a hand.
