Jigging and Fiddling

The Métis people are renowned for their love of music and dance. Métis jigging is believed to have started in the mid-1800s in the Red River area. The "Red River Jig", is the most famous Métis dance. This jig is a special fiddle tune that is played at almost all Métis functions.

Come out and have some fun!

We acknowledge that Portage College’s service region is on the traditional lands of First Nation Peoples, the owners of Treaty 6, 8 and 10, which are also homelands to the Métis people. We honour the history and culture of all people who first lived and gathered in these lands.
