Louis Riel was a great Métis leader who helped his people form a government and become part of the newly created Dominion of Canada in 1870.
In addition to recognizing Louis Riel Day the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 1 invites you to have some fun with finger weaving, Métis games, michief rummy, heart craft, jigging lessons, and more.
We acknowledge that Portage College’s service region is on the traditional lands of First Nation Peoples, the owners of Treaty 6, 8 and 10, which are also homelands to the Métis people. We honour the history and culture of all people who first lived and gathered in these lands.
