Art Student Donates Painting

May 16, 2016. Native Arts and Culture Program student Morgan D'or was inspired to create his rendition of the college logo, which he generously donated to Portage College during the annual Aboriginal Art Exposé.

The painting comes to life with swirls of textured colours. The sun beaming above the horizon and through the spruce trees.

When asked what inspired him to paint the logo, Morgan replied, "I've been at the college for three years and I wanted to show my appreciation for the education I've received. The painting was inspired by Van Gogh's The Starry Night."

D'or made everything from scratch and stretched the canvas himself. The painting is comprised of water colour, acrylic paint, and gel mediums. The tools he used was a pallet knife and a plastic fork.

D'or said, "I wanted to give the logo some life, vibrancy and colour. I think I pulled it off with the colour. It added a whole new twist on it. I hope the painting inspires people."

Portage College enjoys a reputation for excellence in its Native Arts & Culture Program. "This year, we're fortunate to be keeping one of our students' creations", said Dr. Trent Keough President & CEO of Portage College, "We look forward to finding a wonderful location within the Lac La Biche campus to display the piece."

We acknowledge that Portage College’s service region is on the traditional lands of First Nation Peoples, the owners of Treaty 6, 8 and 10, which are also homelands to the Métis people. We honour the history and culture of all people who first lived and gathered in these lands.
