Portage Contributes to Campus Alberta Pipeline Training Centre Initiative
April 24, 2014

Portage College is working with the Government of Alberta to be a contributing partner in the Pipeline Training Centre initiative. The College supports the larger Campus Alberta project responding to pipeline research, safety and workforce development needs.

"There has been some confusion surrounding what the Pipeline Training Centre is, and where it will be located. The Centre is a provincial initiative with multiple locations at post-secondary institutions," said Dr. Trent Keough, President and CEO of Portage College.

The Portage College component of this Centre will form the learning lab and in-ground component of a comprehensive Campus Alberta approach to pipeline training.

"We are having ongoing discussions with the Government of Alberta on the Pipeline Process Loop piece of this larger Centre. The Heavy Equipment and Pipeline infrastructure at the Boyle Campus is one part of this larger initiative," Keough said.

The Alberta Government, Alberta Innovates Technology Futures, Northern Alberta Development Council and Portage College are currently working together to determine pipeline program needs and to look for opportunities to strengthen partnerships with other institutions, and industry partners

Portage College plays an important leadership role in shaping the development of a pipeline centre for Alberta. Taking a coordinated and collaborative approach to developing this centre will ensure the right opportunities for students, industry and the province.

We acknowledge that Portage College’s service region is on the traditional lands of First Nation Peoples, the owners of Treaty 6, 8 and 10, which are also homelands to the Métis people. We honour the history and culture of all people who first lived and gathered in these lands.
