Portage College President & CEO, Dr. Trent Keough and the Lac La Biche & District Chamber of Commerce President, Rik Nikoniuk have begun communication to collaborate on community stakeholder engagements.
Both Presidents shared their joint appreciation for the importance and work of the other's organization to the community and have committed to working collaboratively to promote and support each other.
"We want to strengthen the bridge between the College and the Chamber of Commerce to provide benefits of both to the greater community," said Rik Nikoniuk, "I'm one of those that think this is the best kept secret in town. There's a lot of stuff here and if we have training, access to programs, and networking. Why not use it?"
Specific projects have not been identified. A commitment in principle to work to better showcase the positive aspects of studying, starting or growing a business as well as working and living within the Lac La Biche Region was made. Over the coming months, they have committed to sponsoring training opportunities that fulfill their respective organizational mandates.
Dr. Keough said, "We look forward to working with the Chamber especially when it relates to networking and growing local business. We like the idea of Portage adding value to chamber memberships"
