ABOUT THE POSITION

Portage College is actively seeking a skilled and motivated Journeyperson to instruct our Carpentry program at our Lac La Biche campus. Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver engaging theory and hands-on lab instruction to students in the Carpentry program.
  • Develop learning materials and assessments tailored for adult learners which will include the use of various Microsoft Office programs, following college and program guidelines.
  • Support student success by providing timely feedback and evaluations.
  • Promote and enforce safety protocols in both classroom and lab settings, in line with Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where everyone feels valued.
  • Continuously improve instructional practices to enhance student learning.
  • Stay connected with industry professionals and regulatory bodies to ensure our program meets industry standards and best practices.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Journeyperson Carpenter; Red Seal preferred. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Applicants should possess a congenial personality that fosters trust and positive relationships with learners and staff.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction and applicable codes and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, professionally, and understandably.
  • Computer skills are recommended, with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and applications, such as PowerPoint.
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide a current vulnerable sector criminal record check.
