ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College has an exciting new opportunity for an International Peer Support Worker at the Lac La Biche, Cold Lake and St. Paul Campuses. The International Peer Support Workers play a key role in supporting and guiding new international students. As a mentor, you'll assist with orientation, conduct campus tours, offer peer counseling, and facilitate cultural integration activities. The mentors will also work closely with SAPC.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist with orientation and guide students through campus facilities.
- Provide advice, guidance, mediation, and support to international students on administrative, academic and personal matters.
- Plan and execute social & cultural events to foster community.
- Address and advocate for students' needs and concerns.
- Direct students to campus services and resources.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers.
- Support administrative tasks in the international student office.
- Manage social media platforms to communicate campus activities and events with students.
- Collaborate with local communities to enhance student experiences.
- Welcome new students and assist with airport pickup if needed.
- Participate in leadership and professional development training sessions.
- Promote health, wellness, and career development initiatives.
- Speak at panels to share experiences with prospective students.
- Connect current international students with alumni for networking.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be a second-year International Portage College student.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong skills in organization, data entry and customer service.
- Must be self-directed and able to prioritize workload with little or no supervision.
- Must be proficient with computers, especially MS Office.
- Experience working with international students or in cross-cultural environments considered an asset.
- Knowledge of immigration regulations related to international students is considered an asset.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Successful candidate will be required to provide a current police information check.
